Our Philosophy
 
Social Motivational Groups create a group experience in which individuals learn how to belong and participate in a group by practicing related social skills through actual group membership. In sharing there is strength.

 

Group Approach

  • Peer related team approach and activity oriented group process
  • Teach age appropriate social skills
  • Coach pro-social behaviors within the context of the group dynamics
  • Use a successful model to build self esteem
  • Set individual goals for each group member
  • Periodic social skills assessment to chart student’s progress
  • Graduation represents the completion of group services - Derived from a consensus of Group Leaders, parent(s) and school

Group Format

  • Meet initially with prospective group member and family
  • Group meets one hour weekly after school, early evenings & Saturdays
  • Two highly trained and experienced leaders in each group - Licensed professional supervision
  • Group size of 5 -7 members
  • Heterogeneous grouping of children by temperament and social skill development
  • Group may include children spanning three grade levels
  • Same sexed groups in all but young adult congregations
  • Regular parent contact to discuss child’s progress
  • School contact with permission from parents
